Zionist-puppet Egyptian forces declared on Monday the destruction of
12 new tunnels at the borders with Gaza during the period from 18th –
28th December 2016.The army spokesman, Colonel Tamer al-Rifai, said in a statement on his Facebook page that the border guards managed to destroy 12 tunnels on the borderline in North Sinai province.
In mid-September 2015, the Egyptian army began to pump large quantities of sea water along the borderline between Egypt and the Gaza Strip to destroy the tunnels. The measure came in conjunction with military operations conducted in North Sinai province and the Egyptian Rafah city against gunmen attacking Egyptian security and military bases.
The tunnels phenomena significantly emerged after the blockade the Israeli occupation imposed on the Gaza Strip in 2006. The tunnels were primarily aimed at importing badly needed goods and foodstuffs into Gaza
