Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has expressed solidarity with the
oppressed people of Palestine during a ceremony to sign agreements.
During a Wednesday ceremony in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, where
bilateral agreements were signed, Maduro said, “Today and forever you
(Palestinians) have the solidarity of the people” of Venezuela. He also
expressed hope that the Palestinian people will secure “a great victory”
in their struggle to assert their right to “independence, land and
their own independent state.”
Maduro and Palestinian Authority (PA) Foreign Minister Riyad
al-Maliki signed a cooperation agreement to establish a joint company
dedicated to provide the South American country with agricultural,
poultry and pharmaceutical products from Palestine.
Meanwhile, al-Maliki said the agreement “is a representation of how
Venezuela offers, gives, supports and wants to contribute to the
sustainability, the progress and development of Palestine.”
Mayor of the Caracas municipality of Libertador, Jorge Rodriguez (R),
hands the keys of the city to Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister
Riad al-Maliki (C), May 20, 2015.
Also on Wednesday, Mayor of the Caracas municipality of Libertador,
Jorge Rodriguez, handed the keys of the city to al-Maliki, saying
Palestinians are “friends of our people and represent freedom and
independence.”
He hailed the “courage with which rose (Palestine) against empires
and against attempts to make up one of the oldest cultures ever known to
mankind.”
This is while Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez, speaking
at a press conference on Tuesday morning, asserted that her country is
“ready at any moment to throw itself into the battle for [Palestinian]
independence and sovereignty.”
The PA foreign minister arrived in Caracas on May 18 to strengthen
ties with the administration of Maduro, who condemns the Israeli regime
for its atrocities against Palestinians.
Formal diplomatic relations between Palestinian officials and
Venezuela were established in April 2009 with a diplomatic mission in
Caracas.
